Stephen Walt and John Mearsheimer are at it again with another attack on the U.S.-Israel relationship. They claim that "The Israel Lobby" is somehow pushing U.S. foreign policy in ways that are against America's interest and the will of our nation. However, polls consistently show that Americans are VERY supportive of Israel. Indeed:

Israel's image and support for Israel are at a five-year high among U.S. opinion elites; [1]
Fully 84 percent of U.S. opinion elites consider Israel one of the U.S.' strongest allies; [2] Islamic extremism is overwhelmingly blamed for instability in the Middle East; [3]
A total of 75 percent of opinion elites believe the U.S. should not resume sending aid to the Palestinian Authority until Hamas officially recognizes Israel's right to exist and denounces terrorism, and 72 percent of opinion elites believe the U.S. shouldn't resume aid until the Palestinian government ends its culture of hate. [4]
Fortunately, the world is not standing idly by as Israel and the pro-Israel community in America are slandered. Below are some important pieces by authors and scholars including Ambassador Dore Gold and Prof. Alan Dershowitz commenting on Walt and Mearsheimer's work. I hope you will take the time to read these and stand up for Israel whenever and wherever you can!

I am skeptical of the poll and its definition of "elites".  Virtually all the faculty and upper level administrators in higher education consider Israel to be somewhat of a thorn or nuisance.  The only thing stopping these progressives from outright denouncing Israel as another naive cultist nation, as they have done to traditional Christians here in the US, is that they feel a twinge of relativistic guilt over the holocaust. This curbs some of their rhetoric towards Jews; consequently, they attack Christianity here in the states with renewed vigor.  The same holds true of media "elites".

Most of the so-called elites view Christianity, and virtually all religious beliefs, as something you "grow out of" as you become more educated and mature.  This, of course, flies contrary to all the major thinkers/philosophers that the elites have you study (Locke, Rousseau, Kant, Aquinas).  Their solution to this contradiction?  Easy.  Science has progressed to such a point that those assumptions made by these previous philosophers are no longer valid.  Life is simply a random act of nature.  Morality is simply a set of rules within a given cultural context.  The thinkers of the past would agree if they lived during "modern times" because of scientific truth.

If you disagree with the elites and so much as mention God, you are:

1. Ignored
2. Viewed as someone with a low level of intelligence and/or maturity
3. Labeled "right-wing" or "bigot" and are admonished for being "close-minded"
4. Told there is no debate because "everyone" knows that God is a human creation.

Most "Americans", including myself,  support Israel, but the "elites" are definitely another matter.

Israel is very much in the American national interest. It is the only country in the whole of the Middle East which can be counted on to support America in that part of the world. Even as the support of NATO allies such as Turkey equivocates, the Israel alliance with America stands firm.
This is the one country in the whole world that America can rely on.

As the strength of Israel has progressed, America has been drawn closer to Israel. This is a higly developed country whose military expertise, for one, is actually benefitting America's own military (eg drone technology). It is a country with the best intelligence on the self-professed enemies of America, and it is a country that by and large shares the same cultural goals and sensibilities as the Americans themselves.

Conspiracists, in the mould of the Protocols of Zion, would have us beleieve that America is the dupe of the evil cabal of powerful Zionist Jewry whose intent is taking over the world. they can see no other reason why America would prefer support of Israel in the face of those countries with the oil who despise Israel.

But the fact is that even just for purely economic reasons, a relationship between Israel and America benefits America just as much as it benefits Israel.
For Israel has human capital, a highly advanced and sophisticated workforce.
And it is human capital that is much more valuable than even oil to the highly advanced economies of such countries as America.

It is really a myth that America is responsible for the founding of Israel. Zionists Jews alone are responsible for the birth of their nation. In the first years of the nation of Israel, American support for America was lukewarm. But as Israel advanced and grew into the powerhouse that it is today, and as it progressively grew away from itw own leftist roots, Americans found it in their interests to have such a powerful ally. So it was that by the time of the Nixon presidency, the Israel and American alliance was a firm one. Here was a nation that was on the right side of the Cold War for America, and as the impetus for totalitarianism shifted from the secular left to the Islamist right, America and Israel both found themselves facing the same common enemies.

And such is the case today. this is a mutually beneficial friendship.

I'd have to argue that the elitists are jewish and thats why we support Isreal. It's not a secret it's a well known fact. I Support Isreal, but it can't be a blindless relationship. Isreal can't just do whatever they please and expect the US to agree to it all. We are Isreal's maid, cleaning up after whatever they decide to do. I understand that the holy land needs to be in jewish-christian control. But, there are two sides of every story. You usually only get one side in this forum.

Wait...elitists are Jewish?  I support Israel because it is right to support them.  I'm not sure at all what your point is in this post.  IF you want to get 'other sides' to this issue, there are ample forums and sources out there to get just that information.  I for one, am glad to find a site that isn't afraid to stand up for Israel, and for the right for Israel to exist, to defend themselves from the enemies that want them wiped off the face of this earth.  Those same enemies, want us erased as well.

LOL I can see your very opinionated and have a different point of view.  Which is ok.

But I think your information is incorrect.  As a matter of fact I know it is.

Unfortunately we do not clean up after Israel.  And in MY opinion should support it even more.  It is time to clean Hamas and the two state supporters out of Israel and return it to its rightful owners.  Israel belongs to the Hebrew people.  Not the Arabs/Palestinians.

The current Government in the USA supports a two state Israel.  And that is NOT biblical.
